Cooper Announces State of the Union Guest
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) announced that he has invited his constituent and executive director of the Tennessee Justice Center, Michele Johnson, to attend the 2020 State of the Union address as his guest.
"I am honored to have Michele Johnson as my guest for this year’s State of the Union address. Michele has devoted her career to helping underserved Tennesseans access the health care that they deserve,” said Rep. Cooper. “At the State of the Union Michele will represent hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans who do not have health coverage due to our state’s refusal to expand Medicaid. She will also represent those who fear losing protection against discrimination for their pre-existing conditions if the Trump administration gets its wish to repeal Obamacare,” Rep. Cooper added.
Michele Johnson is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Tennessee Justice Center. For more than 20 years the non-profit organization has helped Tennessee’s most vulnerable access much-needed resources such as WIC and SNAP benefits, legal counsel, and health insurance.
Johnson is a fourth generation Nashvillian. She attended Father Ryan High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee College of Law. Michele is married to Jeff Hill and they have three sons.
Michele Johnson is available for interviews with members of the media about her State of the Union experience. Please contact Brittany-Rae Gregory directly for media requests.
The President will deliver the annual State of the Union Address on Tuesday, February 4 at 9 p.m. Eastern.
