Cooper, Cohen Push Small Business Administration to Fix Shuttered Venues Operators Grants Portal
WASHINGTON – Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) and Rep. Steve Cohen (TN-09) joined 150+ of their colleagues in asking SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman that the Shuttered Venues Operators Grants portal be fixed as soon as possible. The portal opened April 8 and was only live for a few hours before closing for technical issues.
“I know the SBA is working tirelessly to get the portal up and running again, and I hope they are able to meet the Biden Administration’s goal of reopening it by the end of April,” Rep. Jim Cooper said. “Nashville is home to some of the best music venues in the country and many of them are on the verge of disappearing forever. We will continue working with the Small Business Administration to assist any way we can.”
“I know that the SBA is dedicated to getting the Shuttered Venues Operations grants out as soon as possible, and I encourage it to do so. Live venues on Beale Street and beyond are the heart of Memphis, but businesses are receiving eviction notices and some in Memphis have already been forced to close,” Rep. Steve Cohen said. “This funding is a lifeline and cannot come soon enough.”
