Cooper, Environmental Groups Release Report on TN Impact of Withdrawal from Paris Climate Agreement
Today Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05), along with Climate Nashville, Nashville Chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby, Sierra Club Middle Tennessee Group, The Nature Conservancy – Tennessee Chapter, Tennessee Conservation Voters, and the Tennessee Environmental Council released a report on the impacts of President Trump’s withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
The report, put together by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, revealed that over the next five decades nearly 80,000 premature deaths and almost 70,000 visits to the emergency room could be prevented in Tennessee.
“I am confident President-Elect Biden will keep his promise and the U.S. will rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement in 2021,” Rep. Jim Cooper said. “It was reckless and irresponsible to leave the Agreement and we will be spending decades trying to reverse the impact on our climate.”
