Cooper, Meharry Announce More Than $6.5 Million in HHS Grant Awards

WASHINGTON – Today Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) and Dr. James E.K. Hildreth, President and CEO of Meharry Medical College, announced the Department of Health and Human Services awarded Meharry with just over $6.5 million in grants.

“Meharry is one of our four awesome Historically Black Colleges and Universities here in Nashville, and the only medical school,” Rep. Jim Cooper said. “The research, education, and work Meharry provides to Nashville and beyond saves lives. Period. And I’m glad this funding will allow them to continue their work.”

“We strive to be a leader in health-equity focused research in our efforts to combat health disparities. With additional funding graciously made available, Meharry is able to continue expanding its research enterprise at a faster rate,” said Dr. James E.K. Hildreth. “We look forward to capitalizing on these funds to expand our work within our Centers of Excellence and research in heart and vascular diseases.”
